READING PROJECT
On Monday, students will begin a novel project. Today in class, we discussed the criteria as well as book selection.  All students have been given a criteria sheet, with time line for successful accomplishment.

Today, students were simply asked to select a book that would enable them to successfully meet the goals of this novel project.  Please ask them what book they have selected.

As a class, we have problem-solved how to make our project work successful.  We have broken the task into 3 parts.

STEP 1 - READ
Next week, students will be given 4 - 45 minute periods to read and complete the book in class. They can also read this book during SURF, which provides them with and additional 1.5 hours.  Students are encouraged to take the novel home nightly, to ensure that they meet the goal of reading the entire book by Monday, February 4th.   Students have been encouraged to make notes as they read on:  main character(s), supporting characters, setting, problems, and solutions or resolution of the story.
STEP 2 - WRITE
Starting the week of February 4th, students will be provided with class time to work on paragraph summaries as well as project ideas.

STEP 3 - PAPER BAG ARTICLES
Make & Find Articles that support your novel's characters, setting, and plot.

I am looking forward to helping student work through the project process.  As a celebration of completion, we will be inviting families to an Open House.  The Open House date will be posted in February.

FSA's
Grade 4 students have worked hard all week long, completing the Ministry of Education's FSA tests.  Thank you for all parents' support.  The students worked diligently throughout the tests to demonstrate their knowledge. I am very proud of their efforts.
