Math Homework Calendar
Today your child will be bringing home a Math Homework Calendar for the month of March.  There are five activities that practise curriculum related skills to be completed each week.  These activities are meant to reinforce skills learned in class.  Students will require some parental support for these activities.  Please know that you DON'T have to send these activities to school.   They are meant  to help families with quick and simple resources for nightly practise.

I have provided students with a glossary of mathematical terms as well as a notebook to record work.  At the end of the month, students should bring their notebook to school, to account for their complete work.  They should also return the signed coupon.   Completed work will be rewarded with a prize!!

The math curriculum is challenging, so some of the activities may be either too difficult or easy for your child.  Please adjust the activity making it easier or more difficult as needed, to have your child feel successful and make progress with the skills.

Don't forget to check out the interactive computer games and activities.  As part of our Health and Career Education, we discuss appropriate internet use before using the computer, however, you may wish to review your expectations for home use.

Why do the Math Homework Calendar?
  1. Confidence comes with knowing you can do something well.  Your child will feel good about his/her abilities when math is seen as something useful and enjoyable.
  2. Learning takes place through language and thinking about math increases a child's understanding.
  3. Problem solving is a lifelong skill which we encounter daily in our lives.  This calendar presents various strategies needed to solve a variety of problems.
  4. Since this calendar is based on Ministry of Education expectations, your child will be using the same language as  with you as they do with me in the classroom.  The calendar provides definitions so you will share a clear understanding of terminology.

Just like reading, the more we practise a skill, the better we become with that skill set.  It is my hope that you and your child will benefit from this calendar program!
