Chinese New Year
Today students learned that Chinese New Year is different than Western New Year as it follows the lunar (moon) cycle rather than a calendar date.  Chinese New Year starts on the first new moon after January 21.  Chinese New Year is a multi day celebration.   Students are asked to see if they can find out when the first new moon is.

Physical Literacy
Today students worked with Mrs. Loader on the second half of our Physical Literacy focus.  Students resumed working on skills to develop skills in running, jumping, throwing, and landing in control; skills used in individual as well as team sports.

What are we learning in Math?  
Students continue to work on numeracy skills involving place value (reading numbers in the 1's, 10's, and 100's place value) in a variety of ways.  To support their understanding of this foundational skill, students were introduced to an on-line math program today called SPLASH MATH, that has students work on questions directly related to the BC curriculum.  Students will bring home a  Log in card with their User name and a Password today.  If you are able, please take a minute to sit with your child as they work through several of the problems.  

We are also working on money skills and making combinations of coins to $1.00.  Mrs. Underwood, our school's math liason is leading student through activities involving probability (how likely it is for an action to take place:  always, sometimes, never).
